25/9/12
In Howard's class we used Box Camera Obscuras and as you can see these worked better and the image is also projected upside down.
1/10/12
Today in Howard's class we used a Sinar - 5" X 4" camera with a double dark slide, loaded with two sheets of black and white photographic paper. We created images inspired by Julia Margaret Cameron, so the poses are styled quite like the Victorian era. We used an aperture of F8, had the shutter speed at 5 seconds and had an ISO of 6. We set the camera to the "T" setting so that we could click it once to open the shutter wait 5 seconds and then press it again to close the shutter and then we used the same chemicals as for producing the negatives to develop and fix the image and then we also made it into positive.
In Howard's lesson we had to go into Leeds are take pictures of interesting lines and shapes of the modern world.
8/10/12
Today in Howard's lesson we had to use pin-hole cameras, fitted with a sheet of photographic paper and made light tight by duck tape, to take pictures of things from the modern world. I took a picture of someone having a cig then i developed it and produced 4 positives.
9/10/12
In Howard's lesson we enlarged and made positive prints from the film that we had produced in Tim's lesson a few lessons previous. We made test strips to find out what we needed the exposure to be and on this image it was 3 seconds.
Tim
8/10/12
Today in Tim's lesson we were in the studio learning about light and how soft and hard light can effect a picture and the quality, after the lesson me, Jess and Joss stayed and carried on taking the pictures.
Matt
In Matthew's lesson we had to have 3 images from different time periods (Pre 1945, 1945 - 2000 and 2001 - Present Day) and then we had to mix them up and let others guess the correct dates. There were some noticeable differences between the images. For example the pre 1945 images contained alot of grain and noise whereas the present day photography seemed to be mostly smooth, sharper and much less noise. However photographers try to recreate vintage pre 1945 effects.

What Is An Artist?
Today we were asked what is an artist, then we were set the task of choosing an artist, i chose Adam Burton, we were then asked if our chosen artist was;
- Male
- From Europe or North America
- Dead
- A Painter
Although mine didn't tick most of these boxes, most of the classes did suggesting that the most famous artist are all male, European/North American, dead and a painter.
What is a Photograph?
White Cloth Gallery
Today, we went to the White Cloth Gallery to see the Ewen Spencer exhibition "England's Dreaming". This gallery changed the way i thought all galleries were. I was expecting a plain room with framed images that you wouldn't even be able to get close enough to touch. Something that i would find boring. Instead i found that the white cloth gallery was youthful and somewhere i could see people my age finding current as it was full of British youth culture, such a the channel 4 skins promotional images and photo's of underground "grime" artists. The images were also wallpapered on the walls instead of being in stuffy frames which i found much more interesting than a framed image. Going to this gallery really helped to understand what type of photographer i wanted to be and how I would display my images.
The Great Depression
Paparazzi
We started the lesson by watching Lady Gaga's music video "Paparazzi". by watching this we knew that we were doing about paparazzi in this lesson. Matt asked us what we thought of the paparazzi, we gave the usual reply of; "we don't like them" "scum" "don't know limits" "push boundaries" "no talent".
We were then given a map and told to fine where he and Freya would be so that we could find them and try get some good shots of of them from the best vantage points and angles and do anything (within reason) to get better shots that the rest of the class that were all doing the same thing that you were, we all soon found out that it takes a lot of work to do the job of a paparazzi, it takes a lot of stamina and skill to be able to get good shots of the people you are trying to get pictures of. most of my images were blurry and weren't in focus as i was trying to keep up with Matt and Freya. I found out that it is had to be paparazzi so we were wrong about them having no talent as we found out that they must have skill to do their job but we still stick to our view on them being low lives.
Ethics
We were asked what we thought ethics were, we came up with a list of 5 ideas;
- Something that you believe in.
- Strong point of view
- Opinion
- Wrong and Right
- Morals
in the end we came up with one way to describe ethics "Moral principals of an individual/group of people."
Photographs can have a big impact of our emotion, they can make us feel;
- Happy
- Sad
- Laugh
- Smile
- Angry
- Lived
In this lesson we were shown so photographs and we had to decide what we felt about the images.
- Devil, Bad- Angel, Good
- Racist
- Shocked
- Discussed
- Shocked
- Taken back
- Taboo
- Sad
- Evil
- Death
- Anger
- Scum
- Violated
- Unhappy

19/9/12
In Julie's lesson we had to look through magazines and cut out letters and words and create a picture/collage using the subjects 'Attitude' and 'Kindness'. My final idea used the Subject 'Attitude' and I used letters that used a bold font and block color and a large font size as to draw in peoples attention and get my point across.
26/9/12
In Julie's class today we had a set of words and had to type them into Google images and pick the images we liked then we used Photoshop to layer the images and create a collage to do with the words that we chose I chose the words; war, worship, conflict, love and Eros.
3/10/12
In Julie's lesson we had to create a poster to promote your body and that no matter what size, shape, race you are we are all beautiful and we had to use the slogan 'Love Your Body'.
10/10/12
In Julie's lesson we had to create a shrine to the object/person(s) that we chose and I chose 3 MotoGP legends which are James Toseland, Ben Spies and Macro Simoncelli. I used black and white images so that I could create a focal point on the shrine which is the start line at Silverstone.
20/9/12
In Tony's class we had to make a person out of inanimate objects, so using magazines i cut out a flower as hair, sunglasses as eyes, a bikini top as a face, upside down perfume bottom and torso, a plait as an arm, and a mascara applicator as the other arm, a bikini bottoms as a mid section, the arm of the sunglasses as one leg and the chain off of a bag as the other leg. We also had to use half of a face and create the other half.
27/9/12
In Tony's lesson today we were doing pop art so i used an atomic bomb, an 1950s lady and an old phone receiver too create this picture and i used the program Photoshop to create it and then added the text 'Fiery Hair, Fiery Soul'.
